I don't understand what thing Father Schiffer thinks he was going crazy and Father Kleinsorge need to cover Father Schiffer's eyes?

In usual, the injured people like Father Schiffer will have some image which is unreal. In this situation, Father Kleinsorge does not want Father Schiffer thinks himself started have imagination which means he was going to die or going crazy, so he put a piece of cloth on his eyes and help him out.
