This sentence has two independent clauses and one dependent clause. The first independent clause in this sentence is “It was all new, the bond.” The pronoun “It” functions as the subject and “was” functions as the verb in this independent clause. The second independent clause in this sentence is “he wondered.” The pronoun “he” functions as the subject and “wondered” functions as the verb in this independent clause. The dependent clause in this sentence is “how he could have lived his whole life and never had this, never had this closeness with another species, with a dog.” The pronoun “he” functions as the subject and “could have lived…had…had” function as verbs in this dependent clause. The coordinator in this sentence is “and” and the subordinator in this sentence is “how.” Therefore, this sentence is a compound-complex sentence.

This is a compound and complex sentence because it has two independent clause and one dependent clause. The first independent clause is "It was all new, the bond." The subject is " it" and "was" is the verb. The second independent is " he wondered ." The subject is " he" and "wondered" is the verb. The dependent clause is "how he could have lived ." The subordinate conjunction is "how".

This is a Compound-Complex sentence because there are two independent clause and one dependent clause.

The independent clauses are "It was all new" and "he wondered". The two independent clauses are connected by using coordinating conjunction: "and."

The dependent clause is "how he could have lived."

There are three suubject-verb combinations here: "it was," "he wondered" and "he could have lived...had...had."
